STEVEN M. GOLD


Attorney Steven M. Gold provides comprehensive legal advice to 501(c)(3) charitable and other nonprofit organizations. Over the past two decades, Steven has provided in-house legal services to national nonprofit organizations, partnering with top executives to achieve program goals in the most efficient and legally compliant manner. Most recently, he was an integral part of the executive team of an innovative nonprofit political fundraising platform that grew from a startup to over $10 billion in contributions, where he offered strategic business advice and developed innovative legal approaches to online fundraising.

Steven is experienced in providing a wide array of legal and business counsel, ranging from compliance matters to board governance. He has designed and implemented multi-state compliance systems and represented organizations before state regulatory agencies. He has advised organizations on matters related to corporate formation, affiliated nonprofits, registration and reporting, consumer protection, employment discrimination, reasonable accommodations process, political activity, lobbying, data privacy, intellectual property, contracts, and labor relations. He also has experience supporting nonprofit leaders in matters of board governance, strategic planning, and designing leadership structures. Through his career, in addition to leading a legal department, Steven has overseen finance, human resources, and operations functions at nonprofit organizations, managing policy formation and implementation, accounting and budgeting, and resource management.

Steven began his career at a nonprofit focused on fair mortgage lending and access to homeownership in disadvantaged communities. In 2008, he joined ActBlue in its early stages and served as General Counsel for fifteen years, managing a team of fifteen employees and providing mentorship to younger lawyers. He is a cum laude graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst and obtained his law degree from the George Washington University Law School. He is a trained mediator and has volunteered in Boston-area housing and small claims courts as a neutral helping to resolve legal disputes.

Steven lives with his wife and two sons and is active in his synagogue, previously serving as president and a board member. He continues to serve on various committees and focuses his time on supporting youth education. He also volunteers as the Political Compliance Officer for the Massachusetts chapter of the Sierra Club and as a member of the legislative support committee of a local city councilor.
